Charles Shannon graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1944 and served with the Merchant Marine from 1942 to 1946. He was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1950 through the Aviation Cadet Program. He died in 1977 while serving as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
