The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class George Richard Watson (MCSN: 661916), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Gunner of a 155-mm. Howitzer of Battery K, Fourth Battalion, Eleventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 28 November 1950. With an infantry aid station under heavy enemy attack, Private First Class Watson unhesitatingly volunteered to assist in evacuating wounded Marines from the danger area. Fearlessly proceeding through heavy enemy small arms and grenade fire, he succeeded in reaching the stricken men and in bringing them to the artillery area, continuing his valiant efforts until he himself was wounded by hostile fire. By his daring initiative, prompt and courageous action and grave concern for others at great personal risk, Private First Class Watson contributed to the saving of many lives and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
