Donald Harlow served in the Army Air Forces as an instructor at the Aircraft Armament Ground School during World War II, and became a member of the Air Force Reserve after the war. Recalled during the Korean War, in 1969 he was appointed the SECOND Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, serving in that highest enlisted position until his retirement in 1971. In 1980 he was inducted into the Military Order of the Sword by the enlisted men and women of the Tactical Air Command. He is the only enlisted person to receive this high honor.
