Evan Schear began his active military duty as an enlisted man in July 1943 in the Army Specialized Training Program and remained in this status until March 1946 when he became an officer in the inactive reserve. He returned to active duty in August 1947 as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He retired in 1975 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
