The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stanley Lorn Harriman, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in the face of overwhelming odds and direct hostile aggression while serving as the Assistant Detachment Commander for Operational Detachment Alpha 372 (ODS-372), Company A, 3d Battalion, 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne), during combat operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on 2 March 2002, during Operation ANACONDA, in Afghanistan. Chief Warrant Officer Two Harriman’s exceptional courage, dedication to mission and personal sacrifice directly contributed to his men surviving this battle. Chief Warrant Officer Two Harriman’s remarkable performance and selfless commitment to his fellow comrades-in-arms, serve as the standard for others to emulate. Chief Warrant Officer Two Harriman’s actions while engaged in combat operations during Operation ANACONDA reflect great credit upon himself, the 3d Special Forces Group (Airborne), and the United States Army.
