Klaus Schafer graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1972. He received his medical degree under full Air Force sponsorship from the University of Iowa Medical School in May 1977. He retired in 2002 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
