Flying with the British Royal Air Force William Dunn became America’s first ACE of World War II with 5 aerial victories in 1941, months before the United States entered the war. He transferred to the Army Air Forces in 1943, shooting down one more enemy aircraft for a total of 6 destroyed in World War II. He retired in 1973 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel.
