Len Russell was commissioned in 1950 through the Aviation Cadet Program. During the Korean War, while serving as a Fighter Pilot, he was credited with destroying one enemy MiG aircraft in aerial combat. A decade later he again flew combat in the Vietnam War. He retired in 1981 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
