The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Robert M. Warren (MCSN: 0-31815), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Platoon Leader attached to Company G, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands on 13 May 1945. Skillfully and courageously leading his platoon in an assault against heavily defended Japanese positions First Lieutenant Warren consistently exposed himself to intense enemy mortar and machine gun fire to deploy his troops and control the fire of his supporting weapons more effectively. Later in the day as the attack continued across and open field he dauntlessly subjected himself to heavy hostile fire to coordinate the attack of his platoon with supporting tanks and, directing accurate fire from our armor upon the enemy stronghold, routed the fanatic defenders and enabled our forces to enter the town of Dakeshi. By his indomitable fighting spirit and aggressive leadership he was largely instrumental in achieving a difficult objective thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
