The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Sergeant David W. Moore (AFSN: AF-14143669), United States Air Force, for heroism at Eglin Air Force Base on 21 August 1950. While servicing an F-80 aircraft, the operator of a refueling unit was seriously burned when flames enveloped the hose reel and pump. Witnessing the incident from nearby, Sergeant Moore rushed to the blazing vehicle, and despite the imminent danger of explosion, drove it away from the parked aircraft. Sergeant Moore’s prompt and heroic action in voluntarily risking his life to eliminate the danger to personnel and property reflects great credit upon himself, his organization, and the United States Air Force.
