James Fontanella was commissioned a Naval Officer upon graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, Class of 1988. After serving as a Naval Aviator, he transferred to the Air Force in 2001 as a full-time Air Reserve Technician. In 2016 he was appointed a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
