Barry Goldwater flew combat missions with the U.S. Army Air Forces in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations during World War II. Following the war he served in the Army National Guard from 1945 to 1952, and in the U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1952 to 1967. From 1969 to 1987 he served as the United States Senator from Arizona, and in 1964 was the Republican candidate for President. He retired in 1967 as a U.S. Air Force Reserve Major General.
