Adrian Tolen was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1936 upon graduation from the University of Nebraska. He graduated from the Adjutant General’s School in 1942, and left active duty in 1946 to earn his law degree. In 1947 he received a Regular Commission in the Judge Advocate General’s Department and transferred to the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 1969 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Adrian Woodrow Tolen (AFSN: 3041A), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Staff Judge Advocate and Senior Legal Adviser to the Commander in Chief of the North American Air Defense Command from 1 August 1960 to 1 April 1963. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Tolen and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
