(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Captain William Howard Van Horn, United States Air Force, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 24th Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, in the aftermath of the crash of Cobra Ball 664 at Shemya, an island near the western tip of the Aleutians, Alaska, on 15 March 1981. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Van Horn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
