The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private First Class James A. Wallace (MCSN: 338206), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action on 22 January and 26 January 1943 at Guadalcanal. On 22 January Private First Class Wallace disregarded the danger to himself of heavy machine gun fire and rendered aid to a wounded officer, evacuating him to cover. On January 26 beyond the call of his own duties, Private First Class Wallace volunteered to take charge of the transporting and the passing of badly needed ammunition to a battalion which had been ambushed by enemy machine guns and snipers. Private First Class Wallace carried out his duties under intense enemy sniper fire.
