After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, Walter Reed left active military service in 1946 to pursue a law degree. He was recalled to active duty in 1951, and from 1977 to 1980 he served as the 6th Judge Advocate General of the Air Force. He retired in 1980 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
