M. Roger Peterson enlisted in the Air Force Reserve and was called to active duty as an enlisted man during the Korean War. Returning to college after the war, he was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1955 upon graduation from the University of California, Los Angeles. He retired in 1984 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
