Walter Paluch entered the Army Reserve in 1944 and was ordered to active duty in the Army Air Corps in July 1945. He was commissioned in 1949. He retired in 1975 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel Walter Peter Paluch, Jr., United States Air Force, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Assistant Deputy Commander and later as Deputy Commander for Operations for the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, DaNang Air Base, South Vietnam, in action against the enemy during 161 in-country missions over Southeast Asia from 1969 to 1970. His devotion to duty and courage under all conditions serve as an inspiration to his fellow flyers. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
