Paul Myers served as an enlisted member of the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, and pursued his doctorate of medicine, receiving it in 1946 and serving his internship from 1946 to 1947. He returned to duty in the Army as a medical officer to the Corps of Cadets as the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1949 to 1951. He subsequently transferred to the U.S. Air Force. From 1978 to 1982 he served as the 10th Surgeon General of the Air Force. He retired in 1983 as a U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General.
