Headquarters, 7th Air Force (PACAF), Special Order G-443 (March 27, 1967)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Monte D. Montgomery, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an AC-47 Aircraft Commander with the 4th Air Commando Squadron, over Nham Duong, Republic of Vietnam, on 14 December 1966. On that date, Captain Montgomery disregarded the dangers of weather and intense hostile fire to defend an outpost which was about to be annihilated. Flying at extremely low altitudes in and out of the clouds, Captain Montgomery engaged the hostiles until all hostile fire had ceased and the security of the outpost was assured. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Montgomery reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
