William King served 39 months in the Pacific Theater of Action as an Anti-Aircraft Artillery officer during World War II. Discharged after the war he returned to Kansas State University to complete a final semester and receive his degree in 1947. He was commissioned in the Regular Army in 1947, and transferred to the Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1971 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
