George Kennebeck was commissioned in the Army Dental Corps in 1917. After serving in the Army Air Forces in World War II, he transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1952 as a U.S. Air Force Major General. .

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Brigadier General (Dental Corps) George Robert Kennebeck, United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States for his direction of the organization, growth and development of the Army Air Forces Dental Services program from February 1942 to May 1946. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Kennebeck and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
