Sidney Davis enlisted in the Navy in 1943, serving in several World War II operations. He was discharged in 1946, and returned to service in the Air Force in 1949, earning his wings and commission. He retired in 1977 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

Davis, United States Air Force, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Air Liaison Officer with the 82d Airborne Division in the Republic of Vietnam in 1966, and subsequently as a Pilot with the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, in action over Southeast Asia in 1967. His devotion to duty and courage under all conditions serve as an inspiration to his fellow flyers. His actions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
