Robert Chu was born in Hong Kong but came to the United States with his family at age two, and became an American citizen. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1972 upon graduation from Fordham University. He retired in 2008 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
