Rupert Burris After serving as an enlisted man in the Army Air Forces in World War II, Rupert Burris transferred to the U.S. Air Force was discharged in 1946, but re-enlisted in the new U.S. Air Force in 1947. He was commissioned in 1948 through the Officer Training School. He retired in 1977 as a U.S. Air Force Major General.
