Stanley Bear was drafted into Army service in 1943 and served nearly three years as an enlisted soldier. After his discharge in 1946 he was commissioned in the Army Reserve, and called to active duty in 1947 as a physician. He retired in 1973 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.
