The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to First Lieutenant Bud Tinker (MCSN: 0-14394), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry in action at New Georgia, Solomon Islands when in a crucial moment of combat he put the company’s mortars into action on his own initiative with such effectiveness as to enable the continued advance of friendly troops on 20 July 1943. In addition, he moved to the front and supervised the replacement of wounded machine gunners; the replenishment of ammunitions and on several occasions administered first aid and evacuated wounded personnel. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Tinker, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Marine Corps.
