Mark Welsh graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1976. As a combat pilot in Operation Desert Storm, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses among other awards. From 2012 to 2016 he served as the 20th Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and retired in 2016 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
