Charles Wald was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1971 upon graduation from North Dakota State University. (In the NFL Draft in 1970, he was selected in the 14th round by the Atlanta Falcons.) He flew combat missions in the Vietnam War, and retired in 2006 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
