Robert Russ was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program in 1955 after graduating from Washington State University. During the Vietnam War he flew 242 combat missions, earning a Silver Star three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and a Purple Heart. He retired in 1991 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
