The son of an Air Force Lieutenant General by the same name, Thomas Moorman, Jr. was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program upon graduation from Dartmouth College in 1962. A veteran of air service in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, while stationed at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, in 1982, he became deeply involved in the planning and organizing for the establishment of Air Force Space Command. From 1994 to 1997 he served as the 26th Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force. He retired in 1997 as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General.
