(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain Charles L. Brown, United States Air Force, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of an O-1 Bird Doug Scout plane in the Republic of Vietnam in 1968. Captain Brown courageously battled numerous handicaps during a night operation to defend a beleaguered outpost. He repeatedly braved a barrage of enemy fire to bring his 90-mile-an-hour plane in at low level in order to locate the Viet Cong and direct airpower in supporting the besieged allied troops. His heroic action was instrumental in preventing the outpost from being overrun by the Viet Cong. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Air Force.
