Charles Cabell graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1958. He retired in 1988 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General. His father, by the same name, graduated from the Academy in 1925, and also retired as a U.S. Air Force 4-Star General
