The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Sergeant Andrew Leo Crockett, Jr., United States Air Force, for heroism involving risk of life at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, on 4 January 1973. On that date, Sergeant Crockett rushed to the area where an AT-28 crashed and burned. With complete disregard for his own safety, despite the potential hazard of exploding munitions and fuel tanks in the intense heat of brush fires, Sergeant Crockett entered the crash area and persevered in his rescue efforts. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Sergeant Crockett has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
