The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Raymond T. Jenkins, United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Staff Surgeon, Far East Air Materiel Command, and Hospital Commander of the 13th Medical Group, Tachikawa, Japan, in 1950. Upon commencement of hostilities in Korea, within one month the hospital was expanded from a 50-bed operating organization to service 500 patients – – this without any increase in personnel or support personnel. Subsequent assistance during this period within a few months helped materially, but failed to furnish personnel in quantity and quality required. Irrespective of this, professional care and service was rendered to all patients with efficiency, dispatch, and devotion to duty by the assigned hospital personnel. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Jenkins and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
