Born Ralph Halbrook, “The Kid” enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and flew with the RCAF out of England before transferring to the U.S. Army Air Forces as a Flight Officer in July 1943. Subsequently commissioned, during one year of combat he became a U.S. Army Air Forces TRIPLE ACE, credited with shooting down 15 enemy aircraft in aerial damage, before he was himself shot down and killed in July 1944.
