The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Milton T. St. Onge (MCSN: 356680), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company C, Second Battalion, Twenty-second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, from 21 to 27 July 1944. When his platoon was suddenly pinned down by fire from a concealed enemy machine gun on Orote Peninsula on 27 July, Private First Class St. Onge continued alone in the assault against the hostile position and had advanced to within fifteen yards of the enemy when hit by hostile fire. Although he sustained serious wounds, he doggedly continued to attack and, by his persistent firing, contributed materially to disrupting the enemy, thereby allowing his platoon to resume the attack. His initiative, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
