The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Frank V. Snyder (MCSN: 326483), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Crew Chief of Company B, Second Amphibian Tractor Battalion, Fifth Amphibian Corps, Fleet Marine Force, in action against enemy Japanese forces during three assault landings in the Gilbert and Mariana Islands, from 20 November 1943 to 30 July 1944. Although severely wounded himself during the attack on Tarawa, Corporal Snyder administered first aid to other wounded men in his tractor and evacuated them to safety. Despite his own serious condition, he made three additional trips to the beach, carrying troops and evacuating casualties, until loss of blood prevented further efforts. His courage, initiative and grave concern for the welfare of his comrades reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Snyder and the United States Naval Service.
