The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jack Howard Shramek (MCSN: 915701), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as an Automatic Rifleman in Company G, Third Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 21 September 1950. While his platoon was attacking a strong enemy position, Private First Class Shramek moved forward in the face of intense hostile fire in order to gain a more favorable firing position. Boldly subjecting himself to the barrage of enemy fire, he accurately directed his fire against hostile positions, destroying several automatic weapons and annihilating many enemy troops before he received a fatal wound. By his courageous actions, he materially aided his platoon in successfully completing its assigned mission. His fortitude, initiative and unswerving devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Shramek and the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
