The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Frank E. Sepulveda (MCSN: 864247), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Battalion, eighth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 15 June to 11 July 1944. Placed in charge of a rifle squad when its group leader was wounded, Private First Class Sepulveda fought with aggressive determination and inspiring leadership throughout numerous battles. Courageously volunteering to retrieve a Marine killed in action and lying in a dangerously exposed area, Private First Class Sepulveda was mortally wounded before he could carry out his heroic mission. Realizing, despite his condition, that other Marines would be subjected to enemy fire in attempting to rescue hi,. Private First Class Sepulveda bravely contrived to drag himself out of the line of hostile fire before he lost consciousness. His relentless fighting spirit and unwavering devotion to duty throughout upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
