The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Gerald E. Senger (MCSN: 817683), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Battalion, Twenty-First Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on the Asan-Adelup Beachhead, Guam, Mariana Islands, on the night of 21 – 22 July 1944. Assigned the task of covering a strategic defiladed draw when his platoon was sent to protect a vital area of high ground during a fanatical enemy attack, Private First Class Senger fought courageously and with tenacious determination throughout the night, successfully repelling several hostile assaults on his post.
