The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Roger F. Seasholtz (MCSN: 0-13212), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company B, Tank Battalion, FOURTH Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 15 June 1944. Braving enemy shellfire which forced his company to land out of position and rendered his radio inoperative, First Lieutenant Seasholtz dismounted his tank and proceeded on foot along the beaches to locate units of his command. After reorganizing them for a coordinated infantry-tank attack, he returned to his vehicle and led the assault against fortified enemy positions, inflicting heavy losses on the Japanese and contributing materially to the establishment of the beachhead. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon First Lieutenant Seasholtz and the United States Naval Service.
