The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Kenneth O. Schuster (MCSN: 832242), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Team Leader in Company L, Third Battalion, Fourth Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, on 27 July 1944. When his squad leader and assistant squad leader became casualties, Private First Class Schuster unhesitatingly took charge of the group and shifted it to a flanking position where our troops had suffered several casualties from heavy enemy fire. Though wounded five times in the ensuing action, he succeeded, by his able and courageous leadership, in silencing the hostile fire and in making it possible to continue our offensive. His gallant leadership, fortitude and unswerving devotion to duty reflect great credit upon Private First Class Schuster and the United States Naval Service.
