The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private John E. Salaberry (MCSN: 345639), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action on January 21, 1943, on Guadalcanal. Private Salaberry was a member of a platoon on patrol several hundred yards in front of the lines, when enemy machine gun fire was commenced and wounded a man. Private Salaberry, with constant enemy fire, carried the wounded man out of the field of fire.
