The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Robert Romo (MCSN: 0-13203), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Commanding Officer of Company A, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands, on 14 May 1945. Making a valiant effort to establish contact with the unit on his right, First Lieutenant Romo resolutely disregarded all personal danger as he advanced through intense enemy machine-gun and rifle fire in search of the flank unit. Concerned with the importance of establishing immediate contact, he unhesitatingly continued forward without protection through the extremely hazardous terrain under heavy hostile fire until mortally wounded. By his heroism and initiative he inspired the men under his command to continue the advance and his courageous actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
