The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Donald M. Robison (MCSN: 868692), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Runner of Company L, Third Battalion, Third Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Marinas Islands, 21 July 1944. Advancing with the assault elements of his platoon under heavy machine-gun and rifle fire on D-Day, Private First Class Robison discovered an enemy-held cave containing a fieldpiece with a crew of one officer and four men engaged in delivering enfilading fire on the amphibious vehicles approaching from the left of the beachhead. Braving the rifle fire from the position, he entered the cave alone and annihilated two of the enemy with rifle fire before sustaining grenade wounds himself. His indomitable fighting spirit and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
