The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jack C. Robinson (MCSN: 322787), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the FIRST Marine Division against enemy Japanese forces in the Matanikau River Area on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, 23 October 1942. During a night attack, when major wire lines had been destroyed by hostile artillery fire, Private First Class Robinson risked his life, in the continued heavy firing, to repair the damaged wire. Carrying out his mission with resourcefulness and skill, he succeeded in reestablishing invaluable communications, but was mortally wounded by shell fragments during the operation. By his dauntless courage and cool determination, Private First Class Robinson contributed materially to a vital defensive devotion to duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
