The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Edward R. Robinson (MCSN: 449937), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company C, First Battalion, Ninth Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 5 August 1944. When his assault platoon was pinned down by intense fire from an enemy machine-gun position, Corporal Robinson voluntarily assaulted the hostile emplacement with an automatic rifle, single-handedly annihilating the entire gun crew of six. His courageous initiative and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
