The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Charles M. Robinson (MCSN: 382484), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Member of a Tank Platoon of Company A, Fourth Tank Battalion, FOURTH Marine Division, during the landing on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 15 June 1944. After disembarking from an LCM into water approximately five feet deep, Corporal Robinson unhesitatingly risked his life to make his way to a wounded Marine and, despite constant danger from heavy artillery, mortar and sniper fire, reached the man and courageously carried him to safety. Upon reaching the beach and discovering that a tank commander had become a casualty, he immediately volunteered to replace the wounded commander and continued in this capacity for the following three days of the attack, thereby rendering valuable service. His utter willingness to serve, courageous initiative and unflagging devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Robinson and the United States Naval Service.
