The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Marion G. Robbins (MCSN: 336431), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Third Battalion, Second Marines, SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 8 July 1944. Valiantly riding his life when a member of his squad was seriously wounded by hostile machine-gun fire, Corporal Robbins fearlessly braved the withering barrage to proceed to the side of the helpless Marine and, after administering first aid, succeeded in evacuating him to a safe area before he himself was fatally struck down. By his fearless initiative, great personal valor and cool courage in the face of grave peril, Corporal Robbins saved the life of a man who otherwise might have perished and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
